Fabric Gringsing, the art and signature for collectors worldwide

There’s another reason why many tourists visit the traditional village of Tenganan are fascinated by the annual ritual Perang Pandan and buy fabric Gringsing. Fabric Gringsing uses the art of double binding (ikat ganda) in producing process.

The meaning of the word Gringsing means ‘no pain’. The three colors on the fabric Gringsing red symbolizes fire, white or yellow means wind, and black means water. All of these elements are the elements required by the body balance so as not to hurt. Based on these beliefs, fabric Gringsing provides its own power on the user. Gringsing fabric wears in religious ceremonies such as tooth filing ceremonies and weddings. Even some people stray colored threads as a talisman of their power.
