Tanah Lot

Tanah Lot is located in coastal side of Beraban countryside, Kediri sub district and Tabanan Regency. It is situated in 30 Km in west side of Denpasar town and about 11 Km in south side of Tabanan town. The temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide. The word of Tanah Lot is consisted of two words that are Tanah word interpreted as a reef looking like gili or isle. Lot or Lod word has meaning the sea. So Tanah Lot is meaning the small island floating on the sea. The location is now called as Tanah Lot has been used at a Megalithic period as a place that looked into holy, proven from the existence of menhir. Pursuant to environmental condition, hence the structure of Tanah Lot Temple is built at irregular reef plain of its angle which is only consisted of one plain yard as Jeroan.

In 1980 the temple’s rock face was starting to crumble and the area around and inside the temple started to become dangerous.The Japanese government then provided a loan to the Indonesia government of Rp 800 billion (approximately USD $130 million) to conserve the historic temple and other significant locations around Bali. As a result, over one third of Tanah Lot’s “rock” is actually cleverly disguised artificial rock created during the Japanese-funded and supervised renovation and stabilization program.

Tanah Lot is extravagantly blessed by nature. The beautiful geographical landscape adorned with soaring imperial cliffs makes the place no less than a paradise. Tanah Lot owns a magnificent view in particular at the sunset time when the golden red skies frame the temple and waves crash into the rocks and the sun slows down to the earth stomach. The unique animal can be seen in this temple area is the snake which are generally can be met in the coast. Part of its stomach there are no athwart skin, there is only small skin, but this sea water snake very noxious but snakebite case are very seldom happened, because the sea water snake generally very passive, according to the local society believe that it as a deity property and as the guard of the temple from the bad influence.

After sunset ended, there was a show that can be enjoyed by tourists in Tanah Lot that is the Kecak Dance Show. Kecak dance is a colossal dance that played mainly by men, where the number of players in more than a dozen dancers who sit in line and a circle with a certain rhythm voices calling for “cak”, raising his hands, its truly an amazing analog shympony. Kecak Dance performed Ramayana Epic as the theme of their dance, especially the journey episode of Prince Rama and his wife Princess Shinta and his brother Prince Laksamana. Kecak Dance is held at the Surya Mandala Cultural Park Tanah Lot. This place is located on the west Batu Bolong temple or adjacent to the restaurant Melasti. Kecak Dance is held every day at 06.30pm. For tickets can be found at the Information office near the beach or can be obtained directly at the Surya Mandala Cultural Park.

Before watching Kecak Dance Show, still in Surya Mandala Cultural Park, we can have a beautiful dinner in Melasti restaurant, this place often perform dinner. The uniquely of this restaurant are the location that is on the cliff and the panorama in front of this restaurant is blue ocean that can be seeing directly. Melasti Tanah Lot located in surrounding of Surya Mandala Cultural Park and Tri Antaka Monument.
